What is athletic therapy?
Athletic therapists (AT) have a unique view into mechanisms of injury, how injuries happen, since on-field coverage is an aspect of the profession.
AT’s treat both acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries (muscle, bone, and joints). Using a variety of manual techniques and exercises to treat everyday pain, sprains, strains, post-operative protocols, as well as helping with injury prevention and health maintenance.
AT’s are certified nationally under the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA).
What are your top 3 treatments?
My treatments vary depending on my client’s needs, usually muscle release is on the top of that list. I enjoy using manual therapy techniques such as myofascial release, soft tissue/trigger point release, and exercise prescription.
Which cases do you enjoy treating?
I am passionate about helping my clients, of any age, return to their daily lives and the activities they love, whether that be walking their dog, playing sports or getting back to basic movements.
I enjoy treating clients with low back pain. It can be detrimental and debilitating to people of all ages. It can be caused by a variety of factors; sitting for long periods of time, job requirements, athletic stance, weak core, and many more. It can stop you from doing the things you love (cooking, sports, playing with your child/grandchild, etc.). I am excited when clients come to me and through muscle release and mobility exercises we can gain some relief within the first couple of sessions.
